A reminder of just how large this area of Shipbuilding was in the British Isle's, along with the shipyards of Newcastle and Middlesbourgh they formed the second largest shipbuilding area in the country, second only to the many shipyards on the Clyde, and not one of the famous old yards are left today.

While some of the main shipbuilding centres are well known we also like to feature some of the perhaps less well known shipyards in the British Isles.
This feature is about the J. Bolson & Son Ltd Shipyard in Poole, Dorset.
Many shipyards were situated all around the British Isles and they built some very fine ships and employed thousands of people in the time that they were in the business of shipbuilding.
